POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN VALUE EDUCATION & SPIRITUALITY

Languages :

INTRODUCTION

Values and spirituality are central to the moral philosophy of human civilization and its legal institutions. Values and spirituality are considered traditionally to be the prerogatives of the religions and they are viewed as being embodied in the family unit. Yet for 25 centuries the great and the little known civilizations have been struggling with the issues of human frailty. Today we face a values crisis. The aim of this PG diploma in value education and spirituality is to inspire participants to re-examine their ideas and beliefs about values and spirituality. It covers a wide range of subjects where clarity about values and spirituality is important. In addition, this PG diploma provides definitions of values, methods and explains how to develop critical thinking.

Conventional education in the present economic framework has become oriented toward acquiring specialized skills and knowledge for the purpose of obtaining remunerative work. Competition has become so intense that higher education has either chosen to or been forced to compromise on education about life, values, culture, integrity, and other skills and dimensions of understanding that make you a better man or woman who can contribute qualitatively to a civilized world. Many other elements, however, are essential as a preparation to meet social challengers and the stresses and expectations of life in the family, community and workplace. If an individual has not had the opportunity to develop character, inner strength and the powers of good judgement and discrimination, they are at a disadvantage in nay social and professional environment.

An institution or education becomes truly educational when it turns its attention inward, towards the discovery of the self in relation to the vast, infinite creation of the Divine. If you truly appreciate the benefit derived from acquiring values and spirituality, you will give this course a high priority. Without commitment, you cannot progress. Commitment to this diploma course means to be disciplined in regular study and meditation practice. It also means to face both internal as well as external challenges with courage and perseverance. Commitment means to allocate time and not to give up when you encournter hurdles. Commitment means to leave the haven of the familiar world and walk along the pathway that goes out into new territory. Remain open to the spiritual dimension. Each step represents movement forward, and there will always be resistance both from the inside and from the external world. The goal of spiritual wisdom and the inculcation of values is a most worthwhile focus of effort, and the benefit remains with you for the rest of your life.

This course is secular although many of the ideas and recommendations presented are recognized as truths and revered by the six faiths which have the largest following in India. We use the term ‘the Divine’ to denote higher power, supreme intelligence, transcendent consciousness or God. The Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa VIdyalaya is a new religious movement that has emerged in response to the global crisis in spirituality and values. It has 900,00 students who attend regular classes at its 8000 centres in India and over 132 other countries.
